The final days of January 2025 were days of grace for Loyola School of Theology as it celebrated the silver jubilee of its establishment as an ecclesiastical faculty of theology. Adding to the solemnity and significance of the occasion, the Secretary of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education, Archbishop Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi, graced the week-long festivities with his presence.
In his address, the Archbishop underscored the vital role of dialogue in the life of the Church today, emphasizing its necessity both ad intra—within the ecclesial community—and ad extra—in our engagement with the wider world. Without meaningful engagement with others—especially those on the peripheries of faith, culture, and society—academic theology risks becoming insular, disconnected from the lived realities of the faithful.
In this issue of Loyola Papers, we are happy to share with you the full text of the address of Archbishop Pagazzi so we can continue to reflect on his message as one community. We are also proud to feature the following articles as fruits of the continuing efforts of our students and alumni to engage in various forms of meaningful theological dialogue.
