Albert E. Alejo, S.J., Manuel V. Francisco, S.J., and Jojo M. Fung, S.J. (“War on Drugs: A Prophetic Mission of Resisting Evil”) offer a critique of the highly controversial anti-illegal drug campaign of the Philippine government, particularly the alleged “extra-judicial killing” (EJK) of drug pushers. The authors propose morality- and faith-based pathways through which truth and justice can be served. These are: 1) institutional outcry, 2) critique in the light of Church social doctrine, and 3) personal conversion to social revolution. The latter involves mediating the action of God’s Spirit of Truth, manifesting justice and mercy, and inculcating resilience that comes from God’s irresistible enticement. Thus, by condemning EJK and offering safe haven for the truth-tellers, the Church can be truly prophetic. It can bring about the radical conversion and integral liberation of society. – from the Editor’s Preface
